As part of PetSmart Charities expanded mission to support programs that connect people and pets, 2017 marked the launch of our first Veterinary Student Ambassador Program. In the last year we have created strategic partnerships with 15 universities in the United States and one in Canada.
At 11 of our partner schools we have energetic, creative Student Ambassadors who live the mission of PetSmart Charities, partnering with campus groups and faculty members to spread the love of the human-animal bond. Ten of these ambassadors are strong, brilliant young women who will continue to advocate for lifelong, loving homes for pets, through educational and fun events. These are the future leaders of the veterinary industry, and we are incredibly lucky to support them daily. Among these young leaders is Shannon Remerowsi, Second year DVM student at Oklahoma State University.
For her first project, Shannon, and her pup Sheldon dropped off 268 lbs of cat food to the Pet Food Pantry of Oklahoma City, an organization that helps seniors, homeless, and low-income families feed their pets. Shannon believes that helping people feed their pets keeps those pets from becoming homeless - and we couldn't agree more.
